Applied Epistemology

An easy principle of epistemology is: immediate experience is our most reliable source of knowledge. So, since Western reporters in Iraq have become virtual prisoners, embedded in barricaded hotels or security phalanxes, media coverage of Iraq -- and American intelligence for that matter -- is not a particularly reliable source of knowledge, q.e.d. So when the administration claims things are getting better in Iraq -- how the hell do they know?
